Last updated: September 2026
Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how personal information is collected, used, stored and protected when you visit or use the Nav Edge Training online maritime training platform. It describes the types of information we handle, the purposes for which we use it, and the rights you have in relation to that information.
Please read this policy carefully to understand our practices regarding your personal information. This policy applies to all users of the platform, regardless of location.
Data Controller
The data controller responsible for your personal information under applicable data protection law is Anthony Brewer, trading as Nav Edge Training, a sole trader business based in the United Kingdom. Nav Edge Training is not a separate legal entity or limited company.
You can contact us about this Privacy Policy or your personal information at:
Information We Collect
We may collect and process the following categories of personal information:
- Account information: your name and email address when you register for an account.
- Learning and course data: your course progress, quiz results, study activity and preferences.
- Payment and transaction information: billing details necessary to process course subscriptions. Full card numbers are processed by Stripe and are not stored by Nav Edge Training (see "Stripe and Payment Processing").
- Contact enquiries: your name, email and message when you contact us through our forms.
- Technical and usage information: device type, browser, and how you interact with the platform.
- Communications: records of correspondence if you email us directly.
Lawful Basis for Processing
We only process your personal information where we have a lawful basis to do so. The lawful bases we rely on include:
- Performance of a contract: to create your account, provide purchased courses, manage subscriptions and deliver the services you have signed up for.
- Legal obligations: where we are required to keep records, such as for accounting and tax purposes.
- Legitimate interests: where necessary for purposes such as maintaining platform security, preventing misuse, and improving our service, provided these do not override your rights.
- Consent: where consent is specifically required, such as for certain marketing communications or optional cookies.
Where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time. We do not rely on consent where another lawful basis applies to the processing.
How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- create and manage your user account;
- provide, personalise and improve our courses and study tools;
- process subscriptions and grant access to paid course content;
- track your learning progress and quiz performance;
- respond to your enquiries and provide customer support;
- send essential service notifications, such as account and security updates;
- maintain the security and integrity of the platform and prevent misuse;
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
User Accounts
To access course content you must register an account using your name and email address. Your account email is used to identify you, communicate with you and link your course access and progress. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity that occurs under your account. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us promptly.
Course Subscriptions and Payments
Some courses are offered on a paid subscription basis. When you purchase a subscription we store a record of your purchase, the course accessed and the access period granted. We do not store full card numbers — payment details are handled by our payment provider (see "Stripe and Payment Processing"). We retain payment records for accounting and tax purposes for as long as required by law.
Stripe and Payment Processing
We use Stripe to process payments and subscriptions. When you make a payment, your payment information is processed by Stripe in accordance with Stripe's own privacy documentation. We do not store your full card numbers. We may receive limited information from Stripe, such as confirmation of a successful payment, solely to grant and manage your course access.
For more information about how Stripe handles personal data, please see Stripe's official Privacy Center: https://stripe.com/privacy.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
The website may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for login, security, functionality and the operation of the service. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but some features of the platform may not function correctly without them.
We do not use specific analytics or advertising cookies unless confirmed and, where required, supported by an appropriate consent mechanism. If optional analytics or marketing cookies are introduced in the future, we will ensure that appropriate consent mechanisms are in place where required by applicable law.
Communications and Marketing
We may send you essential service communications relating to your account, course access, security and important service updates. These are sent as part of providing the service and are separate from marketing.
Marketing communications, where sent, will only be sent where there is an appropriate lawful basis, including consent where required. With your consent, we may send occasional newsletters or promotional content about new courses and features. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us.
Automated Decision-Making
Nav Edge Training does not currently use personal data to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects based solely on automated processing. Quiz scoring and progress tracking are used to support learning and do not make binding decisions about you.
Data Storage and Security
Your personal information is stored using secure cloud infrastructure. We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your data against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or alteration, including access controls and encryption in transit. However, no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
How Long We Keep Your Information
We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to provide the platform, fulfil the purposes described in this policy and comply with legal obligations. Different categories of information may be retained for different periods depending on the purpose for which they were collected and applicable legal requirements. Account data is kept while your account is active, while certain records, such as payment and tax records, may be retained for longer where required by law. You may request deletion of your account and associated data, subject to our legitimate record-keeping obligations.
Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under data protection law (including the UK GDPR and EU GDPR), such as the right to:
- be informed about how your data is used;
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- request the rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- request the erasure of your personal data;
- restrict the processing of your data;
- object to certain processing of your data;
- request transfer of your data to another service ("data portability");
- withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details in the Contact Us section. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
You also have the right to complain to the relevant data protection supervisory authority if you believe our handling of your personal information has not met legal requirements. For users in the United Kingdom, the supervisory authority is the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): https://ico.org.uk/. If you are resident outside the United Kingdom, the relevant supervisory authority will depend on your jurisdiction.
Third-Party Services
We rely on third-party services to help operate the platform. These include Stripe for payment processing and Google authentication where you choose to sign in using a Google account. The platform may also use infrastructure and service providers necessary to provide hosting, authentication, email delivery and other technical functions.
These providers may process limited personal data as necessary to provide their services. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
International Data Transfers
As an online service serving learners internationally, third-party service providers may process your information in countries outside the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area. Where required, we will use appropriate safeguards for international transfers in accordance with applicable data protection law. By using the platform, you acknowledge that your information may be processed in jurisdictions outside your country of residence.
Children's Privacy
Our platform is intended for maritime professionals and adult learners. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete that information.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements or platform features. When we do, we will update the page and revise the "Last updated" date shown near the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
